- Thats about what we did in the end - the dealer exchanged it for another
- one (a slightly different revision). The strange thing is that the old one
- that we sent back works ok in the dealers system.
-
- The new one will run reliably once it gets going - however we now have
- another problem; from a switch on when cold, the system will either not
- boot at all - or will repeatedly crash when starting up. However after
- about 10 mins of doing this, it will run perfectly from then on -
- superscaler the lot (80 mips!!!!!)
-
- We have traced a posible cause of this problem - it seems to be related
- to a slight drift in the clock frequency of the oscillator. When starting
- from cold, the oscillator runs at 50MHz + ~700Hz - after the system
- "warms up" this begins to fall - at about 50MHz + 300Hz it begins to
- run OK. This problem only occurs with the RAM card plugged in.
-
- (We mesured the frequency with an accurate frequency counter - not a
- CRO)
-
- Since this system also runs fine in the dealers system he is reluctant
- to change it yet again.
-
- So we figured the next step is to replace the oscillator on the
- cyberstorm in case it is a bit marginal.
-
- Any other ideas would be welcome
